A step forward

This weekend reminded me why we worked so hard the last few years.

Between Occupational Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Chiropractic therapy, and working closely with admin/teachers, this last year has been exhausting. Admittedly, my wife worked much harder than I did by communicating daily with his teacher, coordinating appointments/schedules, We worked tirelessly focused on getting our son to a point where we didn’t have to worry about him tearing a classroom apart, throwing chairs, or hitting classmates. Often times it felt like 1 step forward and two steps back.

BUT after a year of therapies and household changes, we can trust that he won’t have a melt down and if he does get frustrated, he has the tools to calm himself down without outside intervention.

This weekend we went on a camping trip with 19 other kids. I watched as he played with friends and solved problems without requiring adult intervention. We are finally at a point where I don’t have to constantly watch him and I can trust him to make the right decisions.

We continue to do therapies and pay close attention to nutrition but I can't help but feel like have at least reached a plateau while climbing this mountain known as ADHD.

I hope this short post can help give other parents hope that there is a great future. All of the hard work does pay off.
